Our Top Picks for Mustang Island

Truly the ideal destination for beach chillers and thrill-seekers alike, Mustang Island has plenty of ways you can experience its sun and sand!

Mustang Island State Park

A staple of the area, Mustang Island State Park has a little something for everyone. You can paddle along the western shoreline of Corpus Christi Bay while taking in panoramic water views—plus, we've heard the embankments right off the trails are the hottest shallow-water fishing spots in Texas. If you want to extend your stay overnight, then you can pitch a tent at one of the state park's 50+ campsites.

Scuttlebutt's Seafood Bar & Grill

If fresh seafood is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the beach, don't worry, you're not the only one! Just a short drive down to North Padre Island, Scuttlebutt's is a full-service restaurant featuring fresh catches straight from Corpus Christi Bay. Here, you can look forward to daily happy hour specials (yes, that includes weekends!), live music every night, and enough peel-and-eat shrimp to last you a lifetime!

Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center

Definitely worth the drive up to Port Aransas, this birding center is the prime observation area for birds, alligators, and fish. Immerse yourself in the wildlife and stroll out on the 700-foot boardwalk over the freshwater wetlands—we promise the alligators won't getcha!
